Dunbar
was founded as the Negro School of Industrial Arts in 1929. It's further
distinction came from the fact that it was one of only two industrial art
schools in the south to receive junior college rating. It was a high school
and a junior college. It provided the highest quality education
for African Americans in the entire
state of Arkansas. Dunbar Junior and Senior High School and Junior College
were placed on the National Register in 1980. The last graduating class
of Dunbar High School and Dunbar Junior College graduated in 1955.
